Food Sensitivities & Allergy

Total IgG vs IgG4 in Food Sensitivity Testing

Why Meridian Valley Lab measures food-specific IgG4 antibodies rather than Total IgG: under chronic allergen exposure, high-affinity IgG4 antibodies rise dramatically without activating complement, providing superior clinical correlation and fewer false positives.

Cardiovascular

The Science Behind Blood Viscosity

Explore how systolic (high shear) and diastolic (low shear) whole blood viscosity link hypertension, LDL oxidation, insulin resistance, and endothelial shear stress—and how clinicians use the Complete Blood Viscosity Profile to guide cardiovascular prevention.

Using 4-Point Cortisol Testing to Achieve Adrenal Balance

How diurnal free cortisol and cortisone curves (morning, noon, evening, and night) combine with total 24-hour glucocorticoid metabolites (THE, THF, aTHF) to differentiate HPA-axis dysfunction from altered cortisol clearance.

Clinical & Specimen Processing FAQs

Why does Meridian Valley Lab measure IgG4 instead of Total IgG?

IgG has four subclasses (IgG1, IgG2, IgG3, and IgG4). Under chronic allergen exposure, IgG4 levels increase dramatically, creating a strong, high-affinity response to food antigens without activating classical complement cascades. Furthermore, unlike most labs that only run a single batch control, Meridian Valley Lab runs both high and low batch controls AND individual patient controls for each specimen, with reference ranges validated for each individual antigen.

What is the difference between PRISM24™ and PACE24™ urine hormone profiles?

Both profiles utilize a complete 24-hour urine collection to capture hormone production and metabolism across an entire day rather than a single moment in time. PRISM24™ provides our most comprehensive, integrated view of the steroid, adrenal, thyroid-related, and metabolic hormone landscape, while PACE24™ offers a focused assessment well suited for targeted baseline evaluation and ongoing BHRT monitoring.

How long are collected specimens stable during transit?

Bloodspots: 30 days at room temperature. 24-Hour Urine (with boric acid preservative): 7 days at room temperature, 2 weeks refrigerated, or indefinite when frozen. Dried Urine strips: 14–21 days. Allergy Serum: 90 days refrigerated/frozen. Whole Blood Viscosity / CBC: 48–72 hours (must ship overnight Monday–Wednesday).
